SEO Glossary
Anchor Text
Written text that is linked to another web page or document.
In the following example, SEO Package is a hyperlink with anchor text “SEO Package” linked to a URL (web pae) http://www.visitorcamp.com
Rel No Follow
This is an attribute in hyperlinks that instructs search engine spiders (see definition below) to not follow the link to another page. From a link building perspective, that means that such a link doesn’t drive pagerank from the linking site to the target site. That means such links generally are not helpful in increasing pagerank / link building and thus do not assist with improving search engine positioning. However, different search engines handle rel no follow differently, as our rel no follow article demonstrates.
Search Engine Spiders
These aren’t your typical household arachnids. Search engine spiders like Googlbot or slurp are actually programs that access web site pages, download their contents looking for text and hyperlinks to other pages, and then “follow” hyperlinks on those pages to other pages, repeating the process. The significance of spiders is that their are the prime method by which Google, Yahoo! and Bing become aware of what is on the Internet. Therefore, their behavior is of considerable consequence to search engine optimization and marketing efforts.
